What would be the best way to brush and clean a wig?

its for a fancy dress party and its a bit matted and stuffWhat would be the best way to brush and clean a wig?
As you mention a fancy dress party I suspect that you are talking about a synthetic wig, whereas most of the answers especially those talking conditioners and anything fancy would be for human hair wigs.

All you need is a clean, tepid bowl of water and some soap; nothing too soapy like shampoo or washing up liquid, I just use hand soap. Rub some into the water rather than onto the wig and then just wash through with your hands.

Again use your hands rather than a comb or brush to pull roughly into position and hang dry until damp. Then use a cylinder brush and lightly roll it over the hair ~ not too hard as you don't want to pull any strands out. If it is especially knotted I recommend using your hands to pull gently apart.

Then leave in an airing cupboard to fully dry. You should be able to brush out fully and if its a decent wig it will return to original shape and bounce. A wig spray is useful mainly to keep it in place.

I do it often ~ as a tranny you have to look your best!!What would be the best way to brush and clean a wig?

just like you do with your own hair...

use a meniquin head
They sell wig Shampoo in like a hair Stylist Store or like a Sally hansen store! And then you would style it just like you would your own,Of corse you need wig head {stand}To do it!BlowDry,Curl,Hairspray,or syling lotion,Just like you do your own!Good Luck!

Hollywood
wash it with baby shampoo (its mild and gental) with cool water not hot it could make it worse, the with a boar brisle brush start at the ends and work the kinks out on the way up (like you would your real hair) add some wig spray (you should be able to get that from your local beauty supply store) then just let it air dry. but hey you could always go to a wig shop and ask them what to do.
i advice you to buy a new one. also question is the hair artificial, human, or horse hair? Also i doubt you want to ';clean'; or ';wash'; it. THink about washing a barbie's hair. You should've combed it throughly before it got matted. %26gt;%26gt;'' Now ye must buy a new one or wear the matted one. Combing it only makes it worse
Ask Bruce Forsyth
ask a Jewish person they have to wear them through marriage
There are special metal combs for wigs, and you can get special shampoo for them at your local beauty supply house, like Sally's Beauty Supply. You just put water in your sink, then add a small amount of the shampoo, then slowly swish the wig back and forth in the water, and you will be watching the water turn dirty before your eyes. Let it dry naturally, most dry really fast, then style with your comb. Good luck, and I'm sure you will be lovely.
depends is it made form human hair or is it synthetic. If it is from human hair then treat it like it were your hair. However with synthetics you'll have to be careful becuae it will be come frizzy if heat is used!
The best way to clean and brush a wig........

depends on the type of wig

A human hair wig can be washed and (only a little on the ends) a conditioner, then you can use only a wide tooth comb to get the tangles out . Using a brush will tear the hair as it does with human hair that is attached to a person.

A synthetic wig can be washed with a product made for synthetic material Usually a silicone base type of cleaner.

Or.. dry cleaning fluid that is used for clothes. use a wide toothed brush or comb to remove tangles. If it is ratted too badly. a dime sized amount of light conditioner may be applied, using small sections at a time, gently comb out the wig.
You will need a wig form to reform the wig on after cleaning it. What I have always done is get a (clean) sink of water make it warm but more towards the colder side but still warm not warm hot and mix some clarifying shampoo or a good clean pH balanced shampoo in the water get it a little sudsy or not so clear looking then depending upon how dirty the wig is you can soak it for awhile or you can swish it around gently. If the hair has alot of hair spray on it then you may need to rinse it in a clean warm sink of water then rewash it. If the wig is in really bad shape it may fall apart while doing this if it was mistreated or neglected for a long time. Even if it is a synthetic wig hair shampoo is what I recommend for it. Then when you are done cleaning it and rinsing it in clean water I would then fill a sink with warm water again then add to it a nice pH balanced hair conditioner and swish it around in it this time not soaking it as you do not really want to affect the webbing of the wig that much just the hair. Then empty the sink fix a clean warm sink of water again then rinse out the wig well possibly may need to do this twice gently. Then when done place, shape and pin it on the wig form if the wig form is not very clean clean it before using it. Then carefully gently comb out the hair. If you want a straight look then place it. If you want is curled you can even get a nice setting gel and put the hair up on curlers to let it dry into a curled shape but do not put it under heat you will have to do this in plenty of time for it to dry in a well ventilated area. Sometimes if it is just a hair piece you can dry it on low if it is human hair and well made but for the life of the wig I prefer to air dry it in a well ventilated area. You can always take it to a salon to do it or even a hairdressing school my recommendation is a Vocational Hair dressing Cosmetology school because they follow the laws more than they are after the money because they are government schools.

It may be easier to comb it out with the conditioner in it but you need to place it on the form and pin it then comb it out carefully. There are many different types of combs etc. to help take out tangles but a metal one may split the hair or cut it. When placing shaping and teasing it up you can use the lifting teasing metal combs if you use it gently. Just be patient and use a wide toothed comb. If you can brush it out gently before washing it that will help also. You may need to trim off anything that gets pulled loose or stretched but if it is synthetic this can dull scissors badly or a razor badly. If you have ever done the hair of a doll you will realize all synthetics are different most do well rolled on brush rollers that are a bit smaller than normal for human hair. Some will curl with a hot curler some will melt and some will do not much along with burn with a hot curler so I suggest use brush rollers as these are easier to get into the hair but then be careful to remove them rolling out carefully starting at the bottom so that they do not get tangled in the hair. Patience and plenty of time is the key to doing well with a wig I learned and they can turn out beautifully if you find an interest in it.

Baby shampoo is not mild or gentle it is gentle to the eyes because its pH is about 11 (alkaline) whereas hair and scalp are about 7 such that it is very harsh on the hair whereas it does not irritate the eyes of babies. If it says no more tears do not use it as it will dry out and damage your hair. Find a gentle near neutral or slightly acidic shampoo. Suave has a very clean clarifying shampoo I am using to remove build I got on my hair recently because I ran out of shampoo and got busy such that I did not get around to buying any so I used my family in Mexicos remedy I saw them use Dove (I know better but they have long beautiful black hair so I said well it is one of the most recommended least drying soaps) and it leaves a build up in the hair is gentle but leaves a coating so next time I am just going to not wash it a couple days. I like to wash my hair every day with a mild shampoo to help keep it smelling better if and when I have time.
Use your tounge and lick the inside of the wig. You can also use bubble gum to add a nice touch to make it seem like your a big movie star at the party.
Mount the wig on a head form and brush it with a special brush made just for wigs or a water brush.

Washing鈥攊n warm water with shampoo. Towel dry excess water. Place on head form and comb into desired style.
To look Beauty
stick it on one of those manacin heaads and brush and to wash it i have no idea
use a big tooth comb so it doesnt frizz
you need a wig brush and you need wig shampoo and then you need the wig spray and shine spray for wig .. you should know first if it is human hair or sinthetic... your best bet is to take it to a hair dresser and have them do it for you. most will be happy to take care of it for you.

or go to a wig shop and have them tell you in detail how to do it so it doesnt get messed up.

Hope this helps,

take it to the hair parlour and give it a good treat.
To be on the safe side, I would contact a wig company. Isn't there one called Paula Young?
Buy an open toothed wide plastic comb. Use as normal.

Wash with a special shampoo for wigs...with cold water and rinse with cold water. Spray with conditioner for wigs.Do not comb until dry. I tease with my hands. All these products can be bought online from a site which sells wigs.I should know I have three wigs and wash regularily.
Clean it lik u shampoo real hair.
put in dryer on air setting, than shake
wet it, apply conditioner, comb from the tips working your way up slowly (while the conditioner is on it still), then rinse it off.
Wigs are so hard to clean - maybe you could take it to a wig shop and have it done, it will probably turn out better.
use conditioner and a tail comb and pull gently through the matted hair
rent a convertible and drive very fast. What do you mean buy clean? You didn`t wash it did you, just because they shrink.
I would suggest taking it off of your head first.
use toilet
gently
wash the wig with a mild shampoo and conditioner and brush it afterwards but dont let it get tangled up!
Use Woolite and the basin to wash. Place it on a wig head and blow dry it while combing it to set it.
