Can you brush your teeth too much?

i have 5 tooth brushes and carry them around everywhere with me. one in my back pack one in my purse one downstairs one upstairs and one and my best friends house. i brush like every 2 hours. i love tooth paste it makes my mouth feel clean. i used to just brush like 3 times a day but now its every time the clean taste wears off. i have very sensitive teeth. Can you brush your teeth too much?
Brushing too often can actually cause your gums to recede. Sensitive teeth are a symptom of gum recession and over years this could cause you to actually lose your teeth. You shouldn't brush more than 3-4 times a day. Try rinsing with a non-alcohol based mouthwash instead when you feel the need to brush excessively. Also make sure you're getting the most out of your brushing by brushing for about 2 minutes each time and making sure you get all of the surfaces of your teeth. Don't forget to floss either, but don't do any of these excessively.

Also, I don't know if you're putting these brushes in plastic bags, but carrying them around unprotected may actually introduce germs into your mouth. Putting them in a plastic bag or case wet may breed bacteria however. Something to keep in mind.

Hope that helps. Can you brush your teeth too much?
Yes you can brush too much and it can be bad.. There are many peolpe who over kill the brushing and self inflict recession. Brushing too many times will scrape the gums off the teeth, many donnt realize it until they see yellow, which are not exposed roots, or the teeth become sensitive and dont know why since they brush too many times. while it may good for the teeth its bad for the gums, which in the long run if its bad for the gums it will come back and haunt your teeth.

when asked by patients how many time I should brush I tell them once in the mornign once before bed but no more than 3 times per day.

the reason they came up with twice a day is because it takes 12 hours for the bacteria to produce enough toxin to demineralize (weaken) a tooth.
Yes you can, you can wear the enamel off your teeth. How fast the enamel wears away is dependent upon not just how often you brush, but what type of toothpaste you use. The pastes with 'crystals' in them cause more wear than do the other pastes.
You could wear enamel off your teeth if you brush too hard. Always brush gently w/ a soft bristled brush. You could also cause gum recession by brushing too hard or too often. Try a Sensodyne type toothpaste, they don't taste as good though. Don't forget to floss! :-)
No, there is nothing wrong with brushing your teeth this often, but you may actually have a compulsive disorder. The brushing certainly decreases your chances of any infections of the mouth. =)
YES, YOU ARE BRUSHING TOO MUCH

btw enamel is as hard as glass and you won't wear it away unless you brush with sand, but the gums will recede and the dentin beneath is sofrter than enamel
That could be why your teeth are sensitive.....I think you should opt for some sugarefree mints instead of brushing soooo much be sure you are flossing though
Only need to brush after you eat or drink, might be bad for gums in the long run, I brush about 8 to 15 times a day
